The printer won't print
The checks that solve almost every printing problem.
On this page
Follow these steps in order: most problems are solved in the first three.
1. The basics
- The printer is on, has paper and the lid is properly closed.
- There's no error light. Switch it off and on again.
2. Test from TPVStream
In Settings › Printers, open the printer and tap Test connection.
- If the test receipt prints, the printer works: check the products' Target Printer or the default printer.
- If it doesn't, continue according to the connection.
3. Network printer
- Print the printer's configuration sheet (usually by holding the FEED button while switching it on) and check its IP address.
- The IP must be the same as in TPVStream and on the same network as the device.
- The port is usually 9100.
- If the IP changes often, ask your IT person for a fixed IP for the printer.
- Use Scan Network to find it.
4. USB or Bluetooth printer
- USB: try another port or cable, and choose it again in Scan devices.
- Bluetooth: check it's paired in Android and that TPVStream has the Nearby devices permission.
Strange or Chinese characters
Some printers start in Chinese mode. Update TPVStream: the app sends the command that turns it off. If it persists, turn off Chinese mode with the manufacturer's tool.
Receipts printing late or all at once
Failed print jobs are kept in the print queue and retried automatically. When the printer is back, pending receipts come out.
