TPVStream updates
Optional and required updates: how the app updates on Windows and Android, and when to do it.
On this page
Updates bring improvements, fixes and legal changes (VeriFactu). We recommend always installing them.
How TPVStream checks for updates
TPVStream looks for a new version a few seconds after it opens, then every 30 minutes while it stays open. It needs an internet connection.
Each version is either optional or required. That changes how it's offered to you.
| Optional | Required | |
|---|---|---|
| Window on screen | No | Yes, it opens by itself |
| Where you see it | Badge on Settings and an Update card | Update available window |
| Put it off | Yes, as long as you like | No |
| Sell without installing | Yes | No |
Optional update
An optional update never interrupts service: no window opens. You install it when it suits you.
- A green badge with an arrow appears on the Settings icon in the menu.
- In Settings, an Update card shows the new version number.
- Tap the card, then confirm Install version…?
- TPVStream makes a local backup and a cloud backup, then downloads and installs the version.
The badge stays until the version is installed. Don't wait too long: the next version may be required.
Required update
A required update is needed to stay compliant with the regulations (VeriFactu) or to fix an important problem.
- The Update available window opens by itself, with the Required label and the Release notes.
- Tap Install now. There's no Later button: the app can't be used before updating.
- If you're in the middle of service, you can tap Quit the app and update later. On the next start, the window opens again.
Since TPVStream checks every 30 minutes, a required update published while the register is open is offered without restarting.
So it never catches you mid-service, install optional updates as soon as they appear, outside service hours.
On Windows
After Install now or the Update card, TPVStream backs up your data, downloads the version and installs it. The app closes during the update and then reopens.
On Android (Google Play)
Updates come through Google Play, like any app. Turn on automatic updates or update by hand from Google Play.
TPVStream tells you too: an optional update shows the Update card (marked Google Play) in Settings, and a required one opens Google Play's update screen.
On Android (universal APK)
With the universal APK, updates happen from the app, just like on Windows. At the end, Android asks you to confirm the installation: tap Install.
The first time, on Android 8 or later, Android asks you to allow TPVStream to install apps: turn on Allow from this source, go back and start the update again.
Good habits
- Update outside service hours, after the closure.
- Update the satellites too: every device should run a recent version.
- Don't switch off the device during installation.
If a satellite shows Encrypted connection required, updating it is usually enough.
